Composition :
- Sachet de 13x13 cm contenant 0,125 g de graines de Mimosa pudica (sensitive).
Cultivation mode:
- Growing conditions: Mimosa pudica is a cold-sensitive plant. Below 10°C, it grows very random, so it should be grown exclusively in pots.
- Sowing period: Year-round at 18-22°C. Seed preparation: Soak seeds for 24 hours in clear water.
- Sowing: Spread the seeds 3 cm apart on the ground. Cover with about 0.5 cm of soil. Tamp lightly and maintain constant humidity without excess. Save remaining seeds for subsequent sowing.
- Watering: Use preferably rainwater or filtered water (without chlorine). Use a fine rain sprinkler to keep the soil moist without saturating it with water. If the room air is too dry, spray the foliage to prevent the leaf ends from drying out. Never allow coconut soil to dry completely.
- Germination: The Mimosa pudica requires a warm and humid climate. Place the pot behind a sunny window, without placing it directly on a radiator. To create a greenhouse effect, cover the pot with a cut plastic water bottle. Germination usually takes 1-2 weeks. Keep seedlings under the bottle for as long as possible to retain heat and moisture. Once the plant is well developed, continue to water it regularly.
- Transplanting: No transplanting required, the crop is done by direct sowing. If the seedlings are too dense, clear removing some plants.
- Flowering: From June to September, the plant produces pretty pink flowers with many petals.
- Particularity of the Mimosa pudica: When you touch its small leaves (called leaflets), they quickly close on themselves. If the contact is prolonged, the reaction extends to the rods, which then lose their rigidity. This mechanism is due to a decrease of water in the leaflet cells, causing them to fold.
