Composition :

  • 1 terracotta pot "Basalt" diameter 13cm
  • 1 sachet of green mint spicata 0.08gr to sow
  • 3 coconut lozenges to rehydrate
  • 1 mode of cultivation

Cultivation mode :

  • Coconut lands: To promote successful germination, start by soaking the fertilized coconut lozenges in 5 to 6 times their volume of water: they will instantly swell. Do not forget to keep a small portion to cover the seeds after sowing.
  • Sowing: Open the bag and pour seeds into your hand. If they are too small, add sand to make it easier to sow. For sowing, sprinkle the seeds on the wet uncompact coconut soil, maximum 2 to 3 seeds per pot. Save the rest of the seeds for later sowing or to sow directly in your garden or on your balcony when the weather is nice. Gently cover the seeds with fertilized coconut soil and tamp lightly.
  • Watering: Ideally use rainwater or filtered water (without chlorine). Prefer a fine rain watering, ideally using a hand sprayer, to keep the soil just wet, without gorging it with water, throughout the culture. Think of the soil as a wet sponge and then wrung out. Do not let the coconut soil dry.
  • Germination: Expose to sunlight behind a glass, without putting on top of a heater, to promote germination. Otherwise, from April on, expose yourself to the sun on your balcony, window sill or terrace. Germination takes a few weeks for the Mint and the plant sometimes grows with difficulty.
  • Multiplication: The other years, the multiplication is done by division of tufts. In the spring, in April-May, take shards from the perimeter of the main clump and replant them every 30 cm.
  • Flowering and harvest: The mint gives small flowers from May to September and the scented leaves are harvested from spring to autumn.
  • Our tip: Spicata mint is the most classic, it’s what we talk about when we mention mint. Sweet flavor, not too aggressive, it is of all uses, green tea with mint, taboulé, desserts ... Mint has a false reputation as an invasive plant, let’s be honest. Look at a tuft of mint. At its periphery it sends stolons, crawling stems that spontaneously take root and give new shoots, this is how it spreads. But if we wait until the end of the season, we also see that the main clump dries partially or completely. And if we accelerated its growth we would find that the mint is not invasive but it moves.
